Expanding Possibilities

Ways to Win slots are now a very established part of the online slot landscape, with many becoming firm player favourites such as Microgaming’s Immortal Romance and Thunderstruck II. We’ve previously covered the difference between Ways to Win games and slots with more traditional paylines, so if you’re new to all this do take a look here. However, if you’re already au fait with the concept, you’ll probably take a keen interest in a new game we’ve added this week from Yggdrasil. It’s called Dwarf Mine, and it’s got a neat trick to extract even more Ways to Win from its five reels during play.

Drills for Thrills

The essence of Ways to Win slots is that the size of the reel array has a direct correlation with the number of Ways to Win possible per spin. A 5×3 reel array always has 243 Ways to Win, a 5×4 array always has 1,024 Ways to Win. And don’t worry we’re not going to launch into the maths behind that now! With Dwarf Mine you’ll initially see a base game that uses a standard 5×4 reel array, so already teases a tasty 1,024 Ways to Win per spin.

However, it includes a cool bonus feature that can provoke an on-screen character (of diminished stature) to literally drill down to reveal fresh seams of symbols. This horizontal expansion of the reel set brings with it an escalation in the number of Ways to Win possible. Reveal one extra row and the number jumps from 1,024 to 3,125. Two new rows makes the figure 7,776, but engage Dwarf Mine’s maximum reel expansion to a 5×7 size and you’ll have a whopping 16,807 Ways to Win at your disposal.

Expand your MineD Set

Dwarf Mine isn’t the first Neon Jackpot slot to have a dynamically changing Ways to Win rule – a legendary previous example is Big Time Gaming’s Megaways concept found on its blockbusting Bonanza and Extra Chilli games – however we really like Yggdrasil’s stylish implementation. Our full review can be found here, but if you’re already a Ways to Win slot devotee we suspect you’ll have already got reason enough to dig deep into Dwarf Mine on your next session with us.
